What is the average electric consumption in a New Glarus household?

The average residential usage in the Village of New Glarus is approximately 701 kilowatt-hour (kwh) per month.  Electric usage can vary from household to household based on family size, house size and age, appliance size and age, etc.  

What is a kilowatt-hour (kwh)?

Your monthly electric usage is measured in kilowatt-hours (kwh).  One kilowatt-hour is equal to ten-100 watt light bulbs turned on for one hour.

What is the average water consumption in a New Glarus household?

The average residential usage in the Village of New Glarus is approximately 4,000 gallons per month.  Water usage can vary from household to household based on family size, quantity of showers taken per day, loads of laundry washed, lawn or gardening watering, etc.

My usage has increased, and I haven’t done anything different.  Is my meter wrong?

In these instances, we will check the reading on the meter to ensure that it was read and entered correctly during the billing process.  Normally a sharp increase in the water usage may signal a water leak.  Remember that you may not always be able to hear or see a leak, usually a toilet. 

Is Fluoride added to Village water?

Yes.

What is the hardness and iron content of Village water?

The average hardness is approximately 300 mg/L (17.54 grains/gallon).  The average iron content is approximately 0.25 mg/L (ppm).

How often is my water tested?

There are many different tests that are completed throughout the year to ensure the best quality drinking water for the residents of New Glarus.  Our water meets or exceeds federal and state standards.

Does New Glarus Utilities accept credit card payments?

Yes, New Glarus Utilities accepts credit card or debit card payments through their online payment system, Xpress Bill Pay.  You can pay with a credit/debit card at the utility office, also.  A $3.00 convenience fee is charge for each transaction at the time of transaction.
